Your Local Election Candidate for Lucan Area

المرشح أحمد شاهين يرشح في الانتخابات المحلية القادمة يونيو 2009

My name is Shaheen Ahmed and I have been selected to run as the Fianna Fail candidate in the local elections for your area.
This is my first time to stand for election but it is by no means my first brush with politics. As a first-time candidate I bring new life, enthusiasm and a fresh perspective to the debate. As an advocate for integration in this country for the last 20 years I have worked with successive governments and various bodies on behalf of the Islamic community. I am optimistic about working for all constituents with a special emphasis on bringing all communities together to achieve an integrated and all inclusive community.
The area has undergone significant changes in recent times and with those changes come new challenges, education, traffic congestion, crime, public spaces to name a few. I will work with you to identify and successfully tackle the local issues that affect our lives. I am a person who believes in getting things done and together we will win positive change.
It is my firm intention to ensure that the very best public services are guaranteed for the area. Over the coming months I hope to meet with many of you and look forward to discussing your concerns and ideas for your local area.
Working in business has taught me the value of achieving results and I promise that together we will achieve positive results that will enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Anglo's top 15 clients each owe in excess of €500m

COLM KEENA and STEPHEN COLLINS

MAJOR CLIENTS of Anglo Irish Bank have been mothballing development projects, running up interest bills and trying to sell off assets, according to a report on the now nationalised bank released last night.
The report also reveals that in the last full week of September, customers withdrew €5.44 billion from the bank and the bank’s management was expecting a further €6.6 billion to be withdrawn by mid-October. The Government announced its deposits guarantee scheme on September 30th.
The heavily edited report by PricewaterhouseCoopers, released by the Department of Finance last night, states the bank has a number of very large exposures with approximately 15 customers having loans in excess of €500 million each.
By late November, a number of large customers with interests in shopping centres and land banks in the Dublin area were experiencing cashflow difficulties “and are in the process of disposing of non-core and in some cases trading assets”, the report states. It also noted there was a large overhang of unsold higher density residential developments in the Dublin area, accounting for a number of years’ supply.
The accountants said in November that losses on loans could exceed profits at the bank this year and next, under a worse-case scenario.
“We have seen significant evidence of borrowers reacting to the downturn in the residential market by effectively mothballing development sites and land banks.”
However, the accountants say it will be difficult to allow interest to roll up on loans where the loan-to-value ratios are high.
A second report released earlier yesterday showed that the directors of the bank were involved in massive borrowing from the bank in the financial year to the end of September last and that one €8 million loan to a director was secured against the bank’s shares.
At least some of the loans to directors are now expected to be written off because Anglo shares held by directors have lost their value, executive chairman Donal O’Connor said in his introduction to the bank’s 2008 annual report.
The report further shows that a number of senior directors at the bank received huge remuneration payments during a year that saw such a loss of confidence that there was a run on deposits.
Former chief executive of the bank David Drumm was paid €2.1 million in 2008, while the disgraced former chairman Seán FitzPatrick received €539,000. Former head of Irish operations Tom Browne, who retired in November 2007, received a payment of €3.75 million “in recognition of his contribution to the group”.
Mr O’Connor in his introduction to the report revealed that the 10 investors who bought a 10 per cent shareholding in the bank last year, using loans from the bank, were longstanding clients of the bank.
He said they had been given loans totalling €451 million, of which €83 million has been repaid. It was likely that €300 million of the money lent will now be written off as the security on this amount is limited to the shares purchased with the money. Mr O’Connor said “the bank will seek repayments under the borrowers’ recourse obligations as necessary” in relation to the remainder of the money lent.
The total amount lent to directors in the course of the year was €255 million, of which €122 million was money lent to Mr FitzPatrick as part of his long-standing practice of switching the bulk of his loans to Irish Nationwide at each year’s end and then moving the loans back to Anglo again afterwards.
Responding to the publication of the bank’s annual report, Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan said it was essential that all parties worked together to promote a positive view of Ireland around the world.

Keane speaks out on Sunderland departure

Roy Keane has said difficulties with an American investor who had a substantial shareholding in Sunderland combined with a feeling that he had lost the support of club chairman Niall Quinn were responsible for his decision to resign as manager of the club in December.
In his first interview since his departure, Keane also told The Irish Tines that problems with some of the players he brought to the club culminated in his departure but said that he would be willing to return to the game and is prepared to manage a club in the second tier of English football . Ellis Short, an Irish-American bought a 30 per cent stake in the club in September. "We had sat down with him a couple of times, Niall and I," Keane told Tom Humphries. "I went down to London to meet him twice. I thought, hmm, the dynamics are changing here. He said he had read my book. I felt he was thinking from the start that I wasn't for him. He sort of knew this wasn't going to be a long-term relationship.” Throughout his tenure at Sunderland, Keane continued to live Manchester and commuted to the Stadium of Light. He says that from early on there was pressure to change the working arrangements. Short wanted Keane at Sunderland day in and day out. But as long as Sunderland were winning matches the case for relocation was weak. "It started with a demand to know where I had been the previous day, that he wanted me available at all times. It was a disappointment. Then there were accusations about how often I came in, about moving my family up. And it was the tone." He also said that his relationship with Niall Quinn had become strained and he felt that Quinn was aligning himself with some disgruntled players. “He was talking to me about the players needing to come into work with a smile on their face. That really concerned me. The day I walked into Sunderland, putting a smile on the faces of well-paid players was the last thing anybody wanted me to do. Players had been taking the piss out of the club for years. If they wanted them smiling all the time they should have employed Roy Chubby Brown. "My question to Niall was, who are you listening to here? It wasn't Niall. It was the undercurrent. Where it was coming from. Smiles on players' faces? It's my job to get them training well. There was good spirit. That's what had kept us in the Premiership last year. Our spirit. That got the alarm bells ringing. Without a shadow of a doubt. The American fella would have been on Niall's case."
Keane says that with his next job he will more than likely be moving house. “I’m happy to move house. Theresa is happy to move. I’m not tied to Manchester. I’m from Cork. I’d be happy to go anywhere. I would be happy to manage a Championship club.

STATEMENT BY PROINSIAS DE ROSSA Labour MEP for Dublin بروزياس دي روسو عضو حزب العمال يؤيد الفلسطينيين

ISRAELI SETTLEMENTS MUST BE STOPPED SO THAT SERIOUS NEGOTIATIONS CAN BEGIN

الاستيطان الاسرائيلي يجب ان يقف حتى تبدأ المفاوضات
Labour MEP for Dublin Proinsias De Rossa speaking in the European Parliament today in a debate on European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) has welcomed “the emphasis on ‘Human Security’ as the most effective basic principle for a peaceful world.” Mr De Rossa said: “This approach puts people’s wellbeing at the heart of our concerns, rather than resources, or global economic advantage. “This principal applied to the Middle East obliges us not only to respond to the humanitarian crisis that recent Israeli aggression against the people of Gaza has created, but also obliges us to tell Israel enough is enough. No more can Europe turn a blind eye to the abuses of Palestinian rights, including their right to self-determination, by the Israeli State. “One of the most significant abuses of the right to self-determination is the relentless and deliberate colonisation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. There are now 500,000 settlers squatting on territory which is supposed to comprise the main territory of the proposed new Palestinian state. “I was struck by the low priority given in today’s debate, except by Xavier Solana and Martin Schulz, of the critical obstacle these illegal Israeli Settlements are creating to the re-opening of peace negotiations on final settlement issues. “Indeed it is difficult to believe that Israel is serious when its spokespersons say they favour a Palestinian state, although they are careful never to refer to an ‘independent’ state, while proceeding day in and day out to annex more and more of Palestinian territory. “Declarations that Europe and the USA are committed to a ‘two state solution’ which includes the establishment of an independent sovereign and viable Palestinian state are not worth the paper they are written on if the Settlements are allowed to continue. As a first step on the road to a negotiated peace agreement, the settlements must be frozen and eventually dismantled. Otherwise there will never be a sustainable peace.”

We will see furious reaction in the coming days الشعب الايرلندي غاضب جدا

Very angry reaction to Brian Lenihan and Fina Fail decision to recapitalise AIB and BI from the tax payer money.
ردة فعل غاضبة من قبل الشعب الايرلندي ضد قرار براين لنهان لقرض البنوك من اموال الشعب

The money will be lent to the Banks to be repayed with interest. Irish people are very angry to the fact that the banks brought on themselves by lending lots of money for people can pay back.
ان الاموال المقرضة سوف ترجع للحكومة بفائدة ولكهنم يشككون بنجاح هذه البنوك حتى ترجع الاموال

Also the people are very angry that the government cut services such education and health to minimum to pay for the banks.
The government reason that Education and Health won't pay back but the banks will pay back with interest.
وكذلك الشعب غاضب لكون الحكومة قطعت الاموال من الصحة والتعليم لتعطيها للبنوك

We will see furious reaction in the coming days and it might result in toppling the government ???????
سوف نرى رودو فعل غاضبة وقد تؤدي الى اسقاط الحكومة

Our advise is to hold a referendum.
نصيحتنا ان يكون استفتاء في هذا الامر
